reader comments: psychokinesis

I am a Chinese, I tell you all paranormal phenomenon is real; psychokinesis, telepathy, precognition, ufos, really exist under special circumstances.

best wishs

reply: Good to know. What universe do you live in because it isn't the one we are communicating in. The laws of physics render psychokinesis, telepathy, and precognition impossible and unless you can give us a good reason for not accepting the laws of physics and correcting us on the true nature of our quantum field universe, I see no reason to take your perceptions too seriously. They're worth pursuing, I hope, since I have spent many years trying to find evidence for them, always coming up empty. I didn't realize until I read Sean Carroll's The Big Picture that I was doomed to come up empty given the nature of our universe and the inability of proponents of these and similarly impossible events (like mind/body substance dualism, life after death, and levitation) to provide credible evidence to believe that the laws of physics are wrong and that there is a better set of laws known to the true believers that they will now share with the rest of us idiots.

Sean Carroll is a theoretical physicist at Cal Tech. I stumbled upon The Big Picture after reading Sean B. Carroll's The Serengeti Rules: The Quest to Discover How Life Works and Why It Matters. Sean B. Carroll is a professor of molecular biology, genetics, and medical genetics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. On the Amazon.com page for The Serengeti Rules, under "frequently bought together" and "Customers who bought this item also bought," the number one item is The Big Picture. Sean B. Carroll's book was one of the most interesting and well-written science books for the general public I have read in a long time. So, I went looking for more by Carroll as soon as I finished it. (By the way, I am not related to either of these fine writers.) Of course, it didn't take long to discover that Sean Carroll is not Sean B. Carroll and, more importantly, that Physicist Carroll is also a great science writer in the tradition of and of the same high caliber as Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
